Hey, we’re only 3.5 months behind our interview schedule! Really, we’re getting this produced in record time (all things considered), but we will have to change the teaser end screen to read, “coming in 2025”. We’re still hoping to have a rough cut to show the AQ community at the end of December.

As evidenced by the photos above, we’ve captured more memories and perspectives but we’re still missing some pretty important voices. A few more interviews to go. Covid, summer schedules, and sheer busyness have interfered, but we’re close to finished.
We’ve had a big change on our team. Bill Kersey had to bow out as the Gene McCarthy film is on the fast track right now and he serves as Director and Editor on that film. It’s a very relevant topic to current affairs so there’s a renewed sense of urgency in getting it out into the world. We were lucky to have him lend his talent and without him wouldn’t have had our marvelous teaser ready in December. He will still be around to offer his thoughts and ideas on the AQ storyline.
And now, I’m excited to announce that we have a new editor, Thomas Sellwood, who brings enthusiasm and a whole new perspective to the project. You can read his bio on our team page so I won’t repeat it here, but I will say that in addition to his video/film talent and experience, he is an outstanding human being and I’m really honored to work with him.

Whoa, it’s been a minute since I’ve posted! I’m hoping to expand on these updates later on but for now I realize I’ve been amiss by neglecting to say how lucky we are to have been gifted not only the entire NYE 2013 never-yet-seen footage for use in this film, but also access to the catalog of interviews from the Leigh Kamman Legacy Project. We have more interviews finished and a couple yet to capture here in Minnesota and in NYC. We’ve tweaked our timeline a bit so that we can still get some important interview subjects who will be in the Twin Cities for the Twin Cities Jazz Festival, June 21-22.

I got to talk with the wonderful Laura Caviani today and hear her perspective as a band leader and AQ regular. A few months into these interviews and I cannot overstate our gratitude. Without exception, each individual has been incredibly generous, thoughtful, kind, and supportive.

I’m doing this wrong but too bad. Rather than create separate posts I’m just going to put all updates here.
We’re still pretty much on schedule but more interviews will be picked up in May than anticipated, both in New York and in the Twin Cities. I’m more than happy to wait for some of these busy musicians to find free space in their schedule and super grateful to everyone for the gift of their time, thoughts, and memories.

We’re keeping to our production schedule with several interviews on tape and lots more on the calendar for March and April. I said it had to be fun and I think – so far – everyone has had a reasonably good time. We’re hoping to pick up a few last interviews in New York in May but that will be it and we’ll be ready to edit in June.
